Long time no see
Hello everyone, after a short pause of nearly three years, I’ve finally decided to get back to my blog. A lot of stuff has happened in the three years since. I was doing the same stuff though, tinkering with computers, homelabbing, studying. Since then I got an internship, it was a cool mostly DevOps oriented internship at a cool company Codechem, that turned into a full-time position. Now I have a hybrid role of a Software Engineer and DevOps, which allows me to play in both worlds, both in development and operations/infrastructure. In the next month I am going to probably graduate with a Computer Science degree from FINKI/FCSE. My next goals are to dabble more into low-level fields, at least lower level programming languages such as C/C++ and Rust despite my not so big love (read hate) for it. And other low-level topics. Also possibly obtain some “retro” networking gear and servers to make a “retro” rack.
RTFnet
Yesterday, after a tiring studying sesh, I got on HackerNews, and the last TheSerialPort video about IRC was trending. So I opened the thread to read it and got a small throwback. Despite me being not even a quarter century old, I was active on IRC from around 2015-2016 to around 2018, and I had a blast of time there, learnt a lot about technology, met a lot of new people. It tingled me, so after couple of hours I hosted my new IRC net, RTFnet, the name was given by my close friend Tunas, the name has an origin from my amateur radio callsign Z33RTF, which has a special origin, which I would like to explain in some future post. The network is running on a machine from Hetzner, the ircd is Ergo, which happens to be a new ircd written in Go that has a lot of inbuilt features, it is fast and easy to setup and so far it’s perfect. I don’t expect much from it but I find it cool, having a space to communicate everything, that is not bloated is so cool, I find the simplicity and the history cool, plus it offers much to learn.
